Over the years I have had the good luck to own many fine horses. People joke that horses can become a sickness, you buy one and then you want another and another until they are literally eating your money and leaving you broke. Ah! Been there and still there! So why do we do it?
To be honest I didn't know why I was so obsessed in owning horses. They'd been a part of my life since I turned 21 and decided I had the money to own one. What I did know was that when I was with my horse I felt great. When I rode I felt even better.
Many years later I know exactly why we become enamoured with our equine friends. Their energy is much more than our own, just standing beside them can make you feel better. They are sympathetic to our feelings and many of these gentle creatures will snuggle into us to allay our troubles. Horses are spiritual they are much more sensitive than we give them credit for. They give and we take but it should not just be that way, we need to listen to them too.
Having rehabilitated rescue horses I know their concerns and challenges, many brought on by not being listened to in the past and taken for granted. These loving animals give and we should give back. When they're having a bad day we should be aware of it by paying attention to their expressions and their body gestures. When we empathize too we not only receive the reward of their love and trust but they are rewarded by our own for them. This relationship is one that is never ending it circles back and forth between and creates a harmony of friendship that knows no bounds.
